2004 Chevy Monte Carlo SS
L67 Throttle Body
Painting
Now that all the "machining" is done, time to start painting!! First thing I did was wire wheel all the loose paint and debris off all
the parts. Also used compressed air to remove dust and finally a damp rag. Typically, I am big on POR15, but I did not
use that on any of these parts. The reason was concern of POR15's bonding properties on the moving parts (the throttle linkage and the
springs). Also, since the throttle body is aluminum, seemed like I had little to worry about since aluminum doesn't rust.
I used cheap satin black paint from the hardware store.
On the throttle body itself, I masked everything I did not want paint on with masking tape. After I finished, I re-masked the outlet
to cover more surface area (I realised not all of the backside of the throttle body will be covered by the upper intake).
Now, the bracket that holds the linkage cables, I painted that in flat black. The reason was I wanted to apply a custom decal to it and
then coat the entire thing in a couple of coats of satin finish clear coat (to help ensure the decal does not get disturbed).
I would like to give special thanks to Tish Frame at KarTattooz.com!! I created
a template of the decal I wanted, and due to the surface area I was working with, the size was REALLY small! A lot of places I found
either wanted a lot of money to do it OR said it was too tiny to accomplish. Tish came to bat with a great price and attitude and
helped make this happen! Thanks Tish!!
