Spring 2011 - Installing Performance Mods
Misc - Front Plug Wire Separators

As mentioned in the information about this modding weekend and seen in the pic above, I ran into a problem with the plastic guide that GM uses to hold the front plug wires on the 3800.   Since I switched over to the aluminum valve covers from a 4th gen v6 F-body, the factory wire routing on the F-body did not require that type of guide.   So now it free floats and just does not look too good.

My initial thoughts were, go to the parts store and see what they have for after market plug wire separator dress up kits.   Sad part is I would be buying a kit probably only use two piece of it (and still have to modify it knowing my luck).   I decided to look around my garage.   I've helped part out a couple of vehicles and found I kept some of the factory wire separators from the 3100 engines (since they sometimes break and pieces go missing, spares are always good).

I found that the braket used on the 3100's right after the coil packs to guide the wires to the front was ALMOST a perfect fit for my application.    I just had to use the Dremel and remove a little bit of material to make it fit just right.

I found during installation that the rubber new rubber valve cover bolt gromet seemed to squish and mis-shape when having this atra bracket in place and torqued to the correct torque spec.   I ended up removing the new gromet since the rubber was soft and allowed that mis-shaping.   I used one of the original gromets (the original ones were not dry rotting, but due to age and heat, the rubber was stiffer and did not squish under the proper torque spec while holding this bracket).

Over all, I am very pleased with this bracket.   Best of all, it was a free piece from my spare parts box!!
